collages aren’t my style
You could argue I had more difficulty putting together a baseline collage about my ID money project than I did making the project itself. I guess I’m not cut out to make collages.
But, these were my results of many hours of detailed graphic design and geometric entanglements. The layout of the bills are heavily influenced my the current Swiss money and also my the walls down here in studio, which have an oddly asymmetrical and appealing allure to them.
Truly, I’ve exhausted myself just putting together a collage for this that I frankly don’t want to talk about it at the moment. In hindsight, I would have chosen a better presentational format, but this medium is simple to look through when scrolling down a browser window.
I will say, though, that American money is in serious need of a design overhaul. Sliced ovals and sometimes obscure (maybe, just plain debatable) governmental figures adorn the bills of the most prosperous nation in the world, confounding a well-resourced design community that would appreciate some changes, at least for safety’s sake.
Oh, but I should comment that the circular bit in the middle should be a hologram; however, I could not find a quick and cheap way to acquire them for the models. I do have some POGS, somewhere, that had holograms, but, alas!
Ok, sleep soon. Let’s do this again.

Great job Ryan! It was really interesting seeing Mulroney on U.S. currency.
I do agree that there are design flaws in our currency. It would be nice to see more creativity than just emphasis on clean lines. A bit more use of color wouldn’t hurt either.
One thing that I would still vouch for though is the quality feel of U.S. currency. In my opinon, the quality of raw materials used in U.S. dollars can not be beat. The refined cotton and linen fibers give it a feel of distinction that I have yet to see in any other currency.
The Euro in my opinion is a total embarassment. The look of the Euro is decent enough, but once handled, the quality of the paper is the equivalent of sub standard stationary paper.
I always reach a new appreciation of our currency after my annual trips to Europe. Feeling U.S. dollars upon return is the greatest feeling after weeks of handling flimsy currency such as the Euro.
Last time I was there, I heard that the EU is considering a complete overhaul of the currency to combat the growing problem of counterfits in circulation. Hopefully they’ll get it right the second time around.

I find your money more representative of America than the current currency.
But alas, the Treasury Dept is too busy putting states on quarters and finding other ways to waste money.

Armen - Mulroney? Really? Why would I put a Canadian on American currency when I could put a Nazi? Remember, that particular bill portrayed both the dignity and achievements of space exploration.
Jeremiah - I realized that in my initial entry, I never mentioned why I put the people/events on them that I did. And you’re exactly correct - I was aiming for something that better signifies America’s more modern achievements and heroes. I believe it is a safe assumption that more people have respect for Rosa Parks than for Andrew Jackson, a staunch advocate of the removal of Indians from the States and someone who survived 103 duels.
Thank you, both, for the complements.

I’m just being my wacky self. I was more interested in what form of rebuttle that would generate. Your response, by the way, was brilliant.
You have to admit though, Mulroney’s resemblance is pretty close!

Besides, Canadians and the space shuttle go way back.
Touche!
