can it, you nit!
Tonight I have been plagued. My sanity was robbed and I became lonesome and afraid.
In every single moment of pause or silence, I would suddenly hear Sam Beauregarde’s famous line, “Violet! You’re turning violet, Violet!” By saying “hear” it, I, of course, mean mentally. But truly, in every instance of when I have not been clearly thinking or focusing on something, my mind repeats this line. Over. And over.
For some people, they are strangely stricken with the ever-repeating ending chorus from The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” where nah-nah-nahs take hold. Others have clever bass riffs from Seinfeld playing forever within their minds; in every case of relaxation they may have in that day, suddenly they see that sickening grin from Seinfeld’s face and hear a jazz bass player slap a few strings.
Nevertheless, I have been going mad hearing that line manifest itself continuously. I think writing about it helps me release myself from its tireless grip.
Violet! You’re turning… violet, Violet!
..Nope.. post-trauma therapy will be scheduled shortly.

I think one of my co-workers is stricken with the same thing… he’s frequently humming the theme song to Green Acres as he walks around.
Drives me nuts.

At least you don’t have the Oompa Loopma song stuck in your head. “Oompa loompa, doopity-doo. I’ve got another puzzle for you…”

A friend of mine was always in a habit of singing the theme to The Odd Couple while we were in high school. Eventually, I started singing too and it progressively became a nice duet.
Actually, the Oompa Loompa theme song isn’t bad (I mean, I love that whole movie) but for some reason it’s that specific quote that I simply could not phase myself of.

You, sir, and certifiable.
And besides, there is a far more freakishly disturbing parts to that film. Exempli gratia:
Is it raining?
Is it snowing?
Is a hurricane a-blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing,
So the danger must be growing.
Are the fires of Hell a-glowing?
Is the grisly REAPER mowing?
YES, the danger MUST be GROWING,
for the ROWERS keep on ROWING;
And they’re CERTAINLY not SHOWING,
ANY SIGNS THAT THEY ARE SLOWING!
Um, eeeeeeek, says I.

When I saw the title of this blog entry, I thought to myself, “self, that quote must be from ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’”… and it was! I find it amusing that no one had mentioned the movie title (until now). Haha.

Well, I suppose you’re correct, Courtney. Although I did refer to “the whole movie” in a comment, but that certainly isn’t as specific. Oh well.
