staring down the carrot

I’ll just say it boldly, as I should anyways: today is my birthday. I am now nineteen years old; yes, old. In the past, this day would be filled with such heavy concentration of pleasantries and candies and toys. Now it seems this is another, dreaded shot of reality. Reaching nearly a fifth of a century in lifespan is bittersweet; my prime approaches (so they say) but my youth withers. And only the lucky, few, and proud continue their race of vigor past their prime, post-prime. Speaking of which, last night my windshield had a nasty run-in with a firefly coming home; a firefly still in mid heat-induced glow. It’s phosphorescent glow continued for several minutes. Talk about self-reflection right there; all of a sudden my brain was flooded with criticisms of this and that. Yet, I still gleaned my share of goodness.

My day of work can only be explained by a brief tangent to yesterday’s time of occupation. Right before lunch, a co-worker of mine, one immediately in authority to me, severely twisted his ankle when dismounting from the ‘Z’ mower, thus I was left alone to finish the duties for the rest of the day. Let’s not forget we were already behind due to the mulching at LGH earlier in the week. So by the end of the day, I was terribly behind and then got word that my co-worker would not be in for many weeks. ::ouch:: I hope he gets better soon.

Then on to today! This morning it rained. Following this morning shower was a period of partly cloudiness. Followed by some more rain. This pattern went on for the entirety of my Friday morning. In effect, I got more behind, way behind. My temp co-worker, who has worked for a few summers more than me, helped me finish up most of the mowing etc. after our second free lunch of the week but we still could not finish it all. Arg. But no big deal. That’s highly stressed regarding our job; ironically, we enjoy a very stress-free job. Thus today was frustrating.

Add to that this poison ivy (enter: the weeding of last week) that has invaded my flesh and nested in its tender tendons…or skin. Just no fun really.

Although…we found a woman’s shoe in our mulching process today. Just your ordinary, black, slightly-formal, heeled shoe buried among the mulch. Yeah. No kidding.

Plus…I found out someone forged my name when calling a radio station. I know forged isn’t exactly our correct term, but let’s forget technicalities for a moment. Apparently, someone called in refuting another caller’s statement about Tech sports or whatever. Oh well.

So yeah. It’s ‘mah’ birthday. Thanks to everyone who has shown me an act of goodwill and charity today whether knowingly or ignorantly. Everyone else is what makes this day about me so special.
