goodness graciousness

Thursday, October 23rd, 2003

Most of you by now would just finally give up and not visit my site anymore due to my recent drops off the face of the earth due to server troubles. While I was being hosted by Jeremiah that happened frequently and inevitably. But not at all due to his poor resources or whatever, but simply because the guy that he had take care of his servers was not fully competent in his tasks. Blah blah blah. Then Mail Boxes Etc. lost his new server, so that would explain my most recent disappearance. If I ever have anyone to thank and owe all my gratitude to it would be Jeremiah, but since his gracious services are unavailable right now, I am being hosted through another manner right now. That’s all about that.

The past few weeks have been rather good. iTunes was released. iRejoiced. Now I can rip into AAC format! And thus far, I’m averaging 13x in ripping…sweet. Plus, an iPod sounds even more enjoyable.

And last weekend I went home to hang out with the locals. I went to a show at Drowsy for DIY. They were incredible. Dave Matthews mixed with Bob Marley; trust me, you’d love it too.

Let’s see. Tuesday I requested my classes for next semester. Two labs. And obviously other courses as well, but I was objectively noting the two labs in one semester thing.

Hmm, well I don’t have much to blog about for the moment, but I will promise to find my critical thinking and commentary side for all to enjoy.

Until then, enjoy the new design. And my wonderfully lit face due to cold weather phenomena.

sadness all around

So yeah. The server is down so, presumably, no one is reading this just now. Hopefully things will work out. And once again thanks to Jeremiah for the work he has done to take care of problems like this.

Basically my weekend was absorbed with studying. I studied for my COMM1014 test that I took today. I studied much and a lot. I think I did pretty well actually. But normally when I get good feelings about my test/exam performances that means I instantly jynx myself for horrible luck and bad turns of fate. I am prone to personal weakness; sickening myself.

Tonight was my last engineering department thing I have to attend. It was the MSE college. I got to wear night vision goggles and watch glass being made. The goggles were sooo good. The professor who took care of the glass production lab was really amazing as well. He was quite humorous in his approach at describing the process and uses and whatnot. If you go to the MSE website, linked above, you’ll see a picture of the same furnace that I witnessed glass being made in (2000 degrees Centigrade). Pretty kewl.

Not much to say. I’ve been busy on homework lately and have a big project to finish up in EF by Friday. And I’m gonna head home this weekend, nice. I also have uncovered a love for Bluetooth, and I’m getting this as soon as it is released. Yes, I am that dork people compare non-dorky people to.

Now I am getting some soup. Because the trip to the MSE thing was taken during a complete gorging of rain and wind where everyone was soakened to the brim. No fun. But now, I must soup.

Recap in summary.

I more/less just got back from my brother’s place where I set up his/his wife’s new laptop. Although it is a long and tiring process to configure, reconfigure, download, and install apps, I did very much enjoy the time I took out of my day to play around with an out-of-the-box Dell and explain to my family why IE is demon and why Mozilla is angelic. And after trying Mozilla out themselves, they agreed! So that was a well-spent 3.5 hours (mainly downloading and installing). And we had pizza.

This afternoon was the VT-Syracuse game. ’twas good. This was homecoming. Basically just a different half-time. And I definitely missed the F-16 fly-by ::major ultimate mondo depression:: And we pre-gamed with pizza. I suppose it’s not even necessary to mention that we won. We are awesome.

Friday night Abigail and I went to B&N and the mall for some browsing. I was blessed to find a generous clearance rack at the GAP so I went home with several shirts (aka ‘tops’). Then dinner. Then movie. Good times.

Classes Friday were actually moderately ok. I had no complaints with chemistry. Odd. Hmm.

Thursday night we saw Memento in Torgersen thanks to some special project on campus to distribute this book regarding Einstein’s life and work. Anyways, yet again I witnessed the movie of all movies. And on this extra viewing I still learned more about the plot and almost have it completely figured out…almost. Yeah.

And at some point this week I had a pizza from Hokie Grille. So much guilt I’ve chained to myself this week… I feel like I should just camp out at the gym and make my body suffer for wanting evil food like that. Ohh, and I can’t forget that brownie either…

Why are all the good foods packaged in 2s yet are nutrition factually listed as one-per-serving? No wonder America is fat. Oooh well.

This has been your summary of my life.

walking the gauntlet

Yay for Arnold! The American dream accomplished yet another level of personal achievement. Despite the incredible amounts of criticism he received on a professional and personal level, I am pleased to see him strive on to victory. Although, some part of me would rather Bustamente have won just so he would screw things up further and, hopefully, America would see how foolish and superficial liberalism truly is. But yeah, today is a happy day.

And still! Panther now has a release date. How great is that! Yet, personally, I am more so looking forward to seeing iTunes4 come to Windows. That would allow Apple to explode in the digital music market with their iTunes Music Store, not to mention sales of iPods would equally burst through all levels of charts and stats. Anyways, Apple promised iTunes to Windows by the end of the year; they soooo better keep that promise. ::trusting::

While I was waiting for a bus at Burrus last night I noticed the bells at Burruss playing a song following the regular chimes for the hour. The song sounded familiar and something told me it was by The Beatles. So today I went through my library and found it. It is ‘Something.’ And the bells play it so well, you simply must hear it to reach the optimal level of enjoyment and amazement. Yeah.

I’m learning AutoDesk and loving almost every minute of it. However, it seems to have its limitations as an app. Still, it is fun…kind of. I suppose. Whatever.

coffee member on the jury

Somewhat uneventful beginning to my week. …Well, it is a Monday. But I had a Frap!

Today we got some of the wAJ guys to take the frisbee outside and that was good. Although, admittedly, inside frisbee down the halls is so much more fun, in every conceivable way. But the weather was nice enough we changed our playground. Thereby making it less hilarious, being outside, but we had more freedom when it came to attempting foolishly absurd catches.

And I’ve been ripping so much music in the past few days. It’s wearing me out, or maybe that’s the immense amount of walking I’ve endured in the past two days. And I had that Belgian waffle on Sunday. That killed me. Those hundreds of empty calories! Some people call me anorexic; I’m not, as far as I know. I just watch me weight, because I don’t want to die in my 20s, and definitely not in my 30s.

No more to say, I’m tired and have more reading to do.

assembly line instructions

This weekend has and will continue to consist of me doing EF hw and other miscellaneous homeworks that have found themselves trapped on my to-do list. Sadly enough. Although I did some more reminiscing today when I looked back over my blogs that I began to preserve around this time last year. Much has changed since then, much indeed. I think it was good to use some hindsight to reevaluate what has gone on in my life in the past year. So the morning started off very collectively.

I’m typing this blog on my knees because my chair is becoming uncomfortable for extended sits. Just thought you’d like to know that RyanHarne.com is taking a whole new angle on things.

So today, I was randomly swayed to the bookstore for some time-wasting. On the way out I noticed something truly amazing and breathtaking. A PowerMac G5. I almost cried. But I held it back. I wanted to hug it, but I restrained myself. But then I had to leave. I’m going back tomorrow for pictures. (Yes, I’m a dork).

Then Abigail and I went to Target and Barnes & Noble for some shopping and browsing. I got an ear warmer because it’s rather cold in Blacksburg, often, so I wanted to prepare myself for weather ‘frigider’ than what we experienced this week. Then we had Fraps and read over Fonmondo.

Following the trip back we had dinner. Great conversation ensued. I love a good conversation; that was a good conversation.

And to conclude my day, someone called me a nerd. Yeah. That’s interesting. I understand how I am a dork, but in no way am I a ‘nerd.’ Nerds are those that dress without style and flaunt their ultra-high GPAs, and they enjoy a good round of any online multiplayer game they can get their feeble hands on. I am NOT a nerd. However, dorks are perhaps more my type. Dorks are those quirky people that are enthused by the simple things of life and allow others to know their love for the simplistic even when their opinion isn’t always desired. Maybe, I’m more of a dork. I can’t imagine me being a nerd. The name-calling was uncalled for.

Oh and thanks for the emails lightly applauding my new design. I still am not liking it myself, but I did appreciate the viewer interaction. Thanks much.

So now I’m back in my chair because my knees hurt. I’m really surprised that hover or just all-around floating abilities haven’t caught on any more in our society. Oh well.
