A few things to mention, nothing much; it’s been a very basic weekend.

Of course I did this and that during the weekend but nothing of notable notoriety. Although I’m now experiencing the side-effects of over-stressing my muscles through near continuous exercise and workouts. The running hasn’t hurt me at all, so that’s a plus, but my extended trips to the gym have started to take a toll on my ability to live.

Ok, so I went to my first college football game, and also my first one as a Hokie. And then I left. Honestly, it’s not that I have no school spirit, it’s just I truly canNot watch sports. To me it’s excruciatingly boring. While of course I get high-spirited when VT scores or makes some great play, that doesn’t mean I’m having a good time. I’d much rather just watch it at home casually (aka not loafing in front of the tv) instead of barring myself in a cage of frat guys. And anyways, Tech was up by 28 with 9 minutes left in the first half, so it wasn’t like I was gonna miss anything. Oh well, perhaps I’ll go to one more for a half or whatever.

Trust me, the new design is happening. And when I say ‘happening’ I mean that it is still in stages of construction. And by saying ’stages of construction’ I mean I’m still trying to create a layout. I am basically going back to the drawing board for this one. Sorry, this may take some time. But it’s not like people come here to be amazed by my graphics.

It’s been a varietous last few days. Thursday presented me with more difficult classes, but equally more satisfying homework experiences. Thursday also began something truly wonderful.

Words cannot express what it is like to experience an adrenaline high. It’s simply astounding, yet unsustainable. Thursday was my health/fitness day of the week. Not to imply I haven’t been working out and running on other days, but I really (nearly) overdid it yesterday. I stayed at the gym all morning before class, ran about 4-5 miles in the late evening, and then did lots of abdominal exercises after that. Oh it was the best feeling ever. Talk about the ultimate confidence builder, it’s like epinephrin shot after epinephrin shot. Anyways, that was enjoyable, especially to know I worked off the pie I ate at dinner ::shame::

However, Friday, today, was, equally enter,taining. I had an NLCF band audition before lunch and that was so fabulous to ‘jam’ with some very talented people. And I got to talk to David, an auditionee himself, about music and stuff of the musical persuasion.

Tonight looks to have no plans, but I do have a study session in about a half hour (but a very long walk) so I’m trying to type this blog as fast as my fingers will dance over these glorious, yet unrefined, black keys. as08d098138187(*!^&*Y(*&oiuqy987hy8as@

This has definitely been a great first week of classes.

Sometimes it’s baseball. Often it is the fourth of July. I guess also it could be like any sport or holiday. But my hall/community has the strongest ties of all. Why? Do we wave American flags before every class? No. Do we all share the same great desire at football games? Well, I suppose we do, but just imagine I answered that with a no. So what brings us together regardless of race, gender (although we’re all male), ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, and any other prejudiced enterprise? It’s Strong Bad’s emails. For those of you who simply have not discovered this yet, well, click the link I linked earlier although I didn’t link ‘link’. Just…whatever. I’m awesome.

I’m not really in an updating mood right now. My new layout is kind of falling apart, definitely not loving it. And I will only publish it once I fall in love.

But at least my classes are getting better. I love my honors Vector Geometry. My Calculus class is getting better, at least the prof is. And my Eng Fundamentals course is becoming the monster homework class. Overall my college experience is getting better.

Last night was an outing with NLCF. I had a great time. I got to meeting several interesting people. One guy, Dan, is an audiophile like me; we had an incredible conversation about electronics. I also talked to Jessie for a while about random college life etc. Anyways, I really enjoyed the time although I didn’t indulge myself with any of the pig they provided…Good times minus the pig.

I’m one day closer to graduating. That’s basically going to be my game plan until I do get to that point. Thus far I’ve been approached with pretty basic classes, but entirely different ways of learning (and one professor who isn’t quite the greatest ‘explainer’). Anyways, this has been a long, headache-filled, hot, tiring, exciting first day of classes.

Yeah, I definitely miss BRCC. I went to NLCF on Sunday and quickly remembered the feeling I had leaving my last BRCC service. While NLCF is nicely contemporary, it seems to have that Baptist leash feeling. Or maybe that was just my opinion. Oh well, it was pretty ok. I’ll try some other places I suppose.

The ‘Hokie Spirit Picnic’ was moderately entertaining. There’s way more energy around a college campus than in a high school, so that instantly makes pep-rally events like this more enjoyable. But this was basically just a way of showing up the little bits that each group/team had worked up thus far. The food was ok though. They had veggie burgers

I think I’m gonna try out the gyms tonight. Or I may take another night run; wow that Saturday night run was just amazing. Yeah… I just don’t want to end up in a weightroom with a lot of huge football players being morons around me.

It’s been a fabulously random day, obviously something I am not used to. But I’ve begun to enjoy this do-whatever-whenever attitude, although I personally am really wanting classes to start because that’s why I’m here instead of easily making money at home.

This morning I went to the Bookstore to talk to the Apple reps/geeks (hey, I’m a Mac geek too) about whatever, but mainly about Macs. Since I brought my Apple mail-out I was given this fabulous door-knob hanger produced by Apple themselves. It’s simple and simply cool. I played around on a 12″ Powerbook for a loong time and definitely learned a lot more about OS X. I also got to check out a pre-release version of Panther, thanks to one of the reps. I was also invited to Virginia Tech Mac User’s Group meetings, which I thought was great. So I left with some enjoyable Mac paraphernalia and a serious desire to purchase a 12″ Powerbook as soon as freakin- possible.

After a pleasant lunch at West End, a few friends of mine and my own self went to the WalMart/Target area. Apparently this trip was also shared with many, endless amounts of Tech students because that’s basically the population that filled the stores during the times we were there. So it was all good. We also checked out Barnes & Noble for a while (where I got my well-needed Frap). So then it was another fascinating BT trip back.

Speaking of buses. I have this constant tendency to sleep on buses. And this is the same droning experience that I’ve known all my life. Not that I hate this habit of mine, but I just find it interesting how a large, diesel-blowing behemoth lulls me into a dreary aura of nothing. Oh well, I thought it was interesting.

Now to explain my subject title. These first few days of college life have not been as enjoyable as I could hope for them to be. While in some manners they have been better than expected, the one huge factor I was looking for hasn’t appeared yet. And that is an openness of conversation. Although, I can’t preach that I’ve been all that sociable to this point, but I’ve just noticed how, thus far, people aren’t willing to just let themselves go in social interaction. Yeah. I do believe that once classes start things will change dramatically (I hope so) but right now it’s kind of a flat atmosphere until things get kicking. However, last night some guys from my hall came in my room to ‘jam’ on our guitars. That was fun.

Anyways, right now I’m tired from a day of walking and movement, I could use some mental rest. And I need to find a place ‘to church’ tomorrow. Hmm..

As I type this in Torgersen Hall in the more northern section of Virginia Tech, I can already (slightly) understand the excitement that I’ve been awaiting. But who reads from this site for inspiration?! Obviously not me…So I won’t waste your time with my meaningless misappropriation of my time spent here and there.

Tonight they are showing Matrix Reloaded on the Drill Field, so I expect to haul myself down in that direction to meet some people and maybe watch a movie. It’s been great already, only two days in, and I seriously can’t wait until classes start because I’m dying to meet people.

But yeah, this is definitely not one of my eloquent blogs nor is it humorous or clever. Sorry, I’m only one man.
